Just checking here, when my volume is all the way turned down on either Control Room or Headphone. I can still hear the track being played at a low volume but very noticeable. Everyone else have this ?

Anyone ? , I called Digi and they said this was normal, just trying to confirm this, Thanks.

I suppose crosstalk is "normal" when cheap electronic circuits are involved.
I personally expect more from Digidesign. Crosstalk or bleed-through should not occur with todays technology.
This has cost-cutting, poor engineering, and bad manufacturing written all over it.
One further note.
The LED meters are shabby, and the faders are crooked out of the box.

So RM, do you own a Command8, do you experience the same thing ? Anyone ?

yeah, I just bought it. Everything, besides what I mentioned, seems great. The crosstalk is very minimal. This usually occurs when ciruitry is not exactly "top notch", or when there are grounding issues within a board circuit. Most old analog boards have some degree of crosstalk.

That worries me that the faders are crooked. I checked out a 002 and the transport controls were crooked also. Can you make the faders straight again? I hate to be a perfectionest, but for $1100 I would like a nice piece of equipment.

RM with minimal do you mean you can barely hear it, on mine it is very audible I can understand all the vocals etc. Just wanna be sure this is normal. I mean on my home stereo when I turn the volume down I hear nothing, even on my boombox or car stereo with the volume down, it's gone. This is clearly audible.

Well, you're speaking nonsense unless you grab a dbv meter that goes down to 0 and take a measurement.
If you want my opinion, it shouldnt be doing it at all. I have yet to even encounter this phenomenon with any piece of equipment.
Zoner.
PS.
When its 3 am and I have all the power in my apartment off and nothing is turned on, I can still hear the ambience of my apartment at an audible level, is this normal?
Get my point yet?

I mean a dba meter not a dbv.

Bigtoe, are you sure ? Play a song, turn volume all the way down in headphones and you hear nothing ?
HI George Ware, or anyone else out there that's already tried this.
What did you have to do, hardware/software wise, to get the C8 functioning with your Mix system ?
Are you using PT 6.4 ?
Can you list your entire set-up & OS/softawre versions ?
I have a MIX++ system on a G4/933/OSX 10.3.3/PT 6.2.2.
From Digs info on PT 6.4.1 for Mix hardware, it looks like that's what us MIX users will have to wait
for before we can "officially" make use of the C8.
Thanks for any insight.

Hi!
No "bleed" here either.
Eagle: Command8 comes with 6.4 TDM and LE.
Digi did announce a Mix specific, final build sometime soon.
Current 6.4 should be fine tho.

Bigtoe, are you sure ? Play a song, turn volume all the way down in headphones and you hear nothing ?
What kind of headphones are you both using? That could be the difference - one set might be more sensitive than the other, resulting in "bleed" or "no bleed".

using AKG 271. Also in main monitor control section, I can clearly hear audio with volume turned all the way down in my Genelecs. I guess it's time to call Digi again

Can anyone with a Command 8 run the following test. Insert the Tone generator plug on a channel. Now listen in both headphones and through the main control section at what dB level does the tone dissapear. Do you hear it at 0 dB ? Lower it until it dissapears. Thanks.

Hi. I did this test. The tone disappeared completely for me around -45dB on the fader and there is no sound at all with the levels down at 0. In fact, the sound disappears between 0 and the first notch on the level controls.

how is the quality of the monitor I/O? i run my mixes out of the Apogee Mini-DAC; will the quality of my outgoing signal chain be compromised by inserting the Command 8 in it?

This will sometimes happen when you have a ground loop. Are the ins and outs on the “Command 8” balanced and are you sending it a balanced signal? You might have a ground loop. If your speaker amps are unbalanced, you might want to use a cable with the ground lifted to check it out.
