I'm just getting started in the production world. I have been a dj and now want to get into production and remixing. I'm want to connect my Radium 61 midi controller, MPC 1000, Mo Phatt sound module and mixer with 2 turntables to my Command 8. I want to use my MPC 1000 as my sequencer, not the software. I have attempted to connect everything myself but I'm not getting any of the midi sounds nor sound from my mixer and 2 turntables out of my Alesis MK2 monitors. Can anyone help me?

What you are suggesting is not possible. The command|8 is a control surface with a monitor section. What you need is a real mixing board. If automation is what you desire then I would get a digital mixing board with motorized faders.

I would look into a DM-24 (http://www.tascam.com/product_info.php?pid=272&nav=digital_mixers)

If you want to bypass the computer totaly you are barking up the wrong tree by buying a command|8.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the help. I understand that the Command 8 is a control surface for PT but it is also a stand alone mixer. Would I still need to get another mixer to get sound output from the midi devices and my turntables and to record into Pro Tools?

No, it's not a stand-alone mixer. It is a stand-alone control surface in the sense that it can be used with non-PT software. There are no channel-inputs on the Command|8, so there's nothing to mix. You are probably thinking of the 002, which it appears can be used as a stand-alone mixer, as well as a controller.

You're right, I'm confusing the Command 8 with the Digi 002. But since the Digi 002 is a mixer, why am I not getting any sound from my midi devices and turntables? What is the correct way to connect my midi controller, mo phatt, mpc 1000 and turntables and mixer?

WOW!

Ok...

Do you own a Digi002 or a Digi002 Rack? or... Did you just buy the Command|8 with no Digi002 Rack or otherwise?

I own a Digi002, not the rack. I was confusing the Command 8 with the 002. I apologize for the confusion, but hey, what do you expect from rookies?

Ok. Good!

I am not familiar with stand alone mode. I have a digi002 rack. I'm not sure why you would want to throw away the software for this purpose, but... to each his own.

I think your questions would be answered in the PTLE forum. Be care full you will get a few laughs, but someone will eventually help you.

Is that quote about the .38 in your signature from a film or something?

Yes it's from the movie Mister Mom.
