So now that I blew up the SSL900 thread with my I hate SSL comment lets switch gears, for those of you who mix film on a conventional console, what are your must have favorite features from the consoles you've worked on?

Just want to make sure that Digidesign has enought input for feature requests from the film community. Would love to see more ICON's on film stages.

how about a cool new interface that would link the transports on a multi system stage rather than bs mmc and tc. a new prefs window would ask what parameters you would want linked ie: solos, transport, scrub ect.... then you could use mmc or serial just to keep the picture moving. Seems like we need to be able to integrate everything more. now if you have 3+ systems you would have the same control from each system.

* Multiple ProTools system control*
Each surface should be able to control multiple PT rigs.
Multiple layers should be able to support 500 tracks not 96.
You should not have to buy more Icons to get more PTools.

* The monitor section is woefully inadequate for film post*
Stem speaker matrixing, Dolby and other inserts, A, B, C, D speaker outputs and selections.
Easily recallable monitoring presets, levels and solo/mute logic.
Digital Cinema is specifying up to 16 channels.
Will a Digidesign product be able to format these new speaker channels.
D-Cinema will add more surround value to the theatre going experience.

* Pec Direct "key" recording style* .... A film tradition.

* Real Time AC3 encoding, ProLogic/ProLogic 2 Matrix encoding and decoding.

Peace

I wonder what Dolby would make of their DS10s and DMUs... Scrap metal, perhaps...

Dolby only licenses offline AC3 encoders for a reason; ever wonder why?

What I want is surround panners

Sorry for poor english.
Today I had a demo with Digidesign in ROMA (Italia)... interesting.
I'm a film mixer.
I want:
in each channel a simultaneous DIRECT access via rotary knobs (six rotary knob on THIS channel) to
1) LR panning
1) POLAR panning (360 degrees rotation)
2) send to reverb (kind 1)
3) send to reverb/slap delay (kind 2)
4) low frew shelf GAIN
5) mid freq bandpass GAIN (using SHIFT: center frequency)
6) hig freq shelf GAIN

PREREADING!!! If a region in track 17 is coming... a flash blink on track 17, and a fader vibrating alarm (!), 5 seconds before the region is on playhead.

REALTIME ppm: now I see a 20 ms delay circa

REALTIME faders: now i hear a 40 ms delay circa

Spectrum and phase analyzer or leds indicating energy in 0Hz-35 Hz, and/or hum, and or whistles (in 7KHz-20 KHz range) with freq indication.

completely assignable knobs (every knob to every plug-in parameter!!!): on reverb channel I want to assign 6 knobs to:

1) delay time (=room dimension)
2) hipass frequency for an EQ.
3) first reflections/reverb tail RATIO
4) center freq for a boost on mid-bass (hi Q)
5) GAIN for point 4
6) f/r panning

scene recall (plug-in presets, fader position, rotary position... MUTES for simulating different monitoring environment...)

AUTO WRITE TO MARKER

AUTO VIDEOEDITPOINTS identifier on video track (based on difference between two adiacent frames)
AUTO AUDIOCONFORMING based on difference beetween 2 VIDEOS (same movie, with last minute editing): very simple, very useful.

WAVEFORMS drawed on logaritmic scale (with 24 bit is a must).

A DECENT horizonatl scroll (pay a guy that write videogames!!!!)

TRUE HEADROOM beetween plug-ins insert!

Bypass on PHYSICAL INSERT: so I can insert a true dolby surr encoder/decoder chain, and bypass them with a single keystroke... or using SCENE MEMORY LOCATION

VUMETERS

PEDALS assignable to reverb masters... or f/r panning... or FF/REW...

etcetera

1) RELATIVE Pan Grouping
2) Automated Routing! (A Must for PreDubbing)
3) Automated Pre/Post Send States
4) UNIFORM PLUG-IN MAPPING! (Mapping tables that are D-Control Specific)
5) More direct method for switching automation modes on each ch. strip
6) variable number of custom faders (not just blocks of 8)
7) NO Plug-In metering when plug in is BYPASSED! (totally misleading!)
8) Digital monitor inputs ... minimum 6 7.1 inputs
9) Variable monitor matrix
10) Encoders active when 'inserts' button is active on D-Control Channel Strip. (Pick a logocal parameter.)
11) Some kind of 'signal present' indicator on ch strips to help w/ parallax effect from meter bridge.
12) Pre vs Post fader metering on mono ch's (i.e. left side meter pre fader / right side meter post fader)
13) More useable meter scaling. (-20 is at the BOTTOM 3rd of the meter!)
14) 'Lock'able Center Channel Strip (similar to EQ/DYN panels)

That's probably more than enough for now. More to follow, I'm sure.

PS all in all .. this product (and it's offspring) are the future! Kudos Digi.

It's great to see you here posting Todd. For those of you who don't know Todd, he is an excellent Re-recording Mixer and a great guy! Todd has been working on Pro Tools as long as I can remember.
Digi, take note on his input.

Thanks Marti ...
Congrats on 'The Grudge'. That's no small task. Well done.

Other request:
1) ppm metering or rms metering. and with prereading option.
2) dark gray instead of reflective light surface
3) latch on plug-in controls and panpot, and touch on fader.
4) a method to indicate VIRGIN automation areas that use an "auto write to end of virgin area, on stop"
5) audio when FF or REW is useful, but better if even quicktime movies plays during FF or REW.
6) waveform smoothing like Apple Quartz technology and font smoothing
7) a useful digidesign database that remember which session use some audio files.
8) automatable preset recall on plug-ins
9) a set of GOOD plug-ins standard in every Pro Tools (I want Channelstrip from Metric Halo and Lexiverb).
10) a plug-in capable of LTC generation/read
11) vertical or horizontal edit window (vertical is useful when mixing)
12) smother page scroll in edit window
13) MTC via ethernet in real time
14) more quicktime movies on same video track
15) plug.in windows that use less screen space and are composable like in Reason or other sw
16) FLASHING SHUFFLE MODE or single use mode (like single zoom)
17) FLASHING AUTO WRITE ON STOP
18) auto update with import tracks... if my friend made a better sync on tracks 16 to 24, I want to reimport these tracks (only regions, fades, not automation!) with a single click.
19) print marker list, with tc and comments
20) IMPORT markers from another session
21) don't import group definitions from other sessions!!!
22) region colour derived from marker: useful but I prefer to see a change in color when region come out of next marker.
23) sorry for poor english
