what's the best backup software for backing up AV data??? i'm currently using mezzo archiver, and although it's great in that you don't have to track your media around (potentially) several drives/partitions, it's "scan" time can put your assistants into instant overtime hours daily...just being able to drag a "project file" into the archive is really great, but i'm starting to feel that the "scan" time is just not worth it...do i have to order "retrospect" or is there something better out there???

I am using Retrospest with AV and have not found any problems with it. It is simple to use and I guess fairly quick. I haven't tried an alternative so I have no comparison.

if you folder your media at the end of each session, retrospect is a breeze.
when you want to b/u just copy your project in to the media folder and go.
call me or stop by es one day and i'll show you.

We used to use retrospect with a dat drive for our backups until we lost a bunch of media to corruption.
Since then, we've been burning CD roms for each job.
It works out great for commercial work,
and after two years of this method, we haven't (knock on wood) lost anything.
The media is really cheap and it's easy to
find stuff.
Ya gotta love that.
For long form work, it would seem like the CD's are a bit small to handle all of the data.
