i'd love to know how often we (AV users) crash...especially "nu-bus" vs "pci" systems.
recent information makes me think that (maybe) the new "pci/pro-tools" system is crashier than the "avid/nu-bus" - i run norton "disk doctor" once a week (if i can) as well as rebuilding all desktops...i very rarely crash...i have the avid/nu-bus system (vers. 3.6) any feedback???

I have been using the PCI/AV for about 3 years and I NEVER Crash! I think proper file management is the key! And don't cltter up your Workstaion w/ junk that you do not need!

Welllll,
We're currently using three different Audiovision systems, One from each family.
6040 nubus, nubus "amp", and 9600 PCI.
Interestingly enough, for us anyway,
the crashing heirarchy goes in the reverse order. Our pci system is definitely the most
stable of the bunch, (and fast...) the AMP system comes in second and the 040 system a
slow third.
We had some issues when we first got the pci setup, mostly with media proxy errors and drive speed problems. After a REALLY long
process of board swaps and software updates,
we managed to de-bug our system.
I DO have to say that the support was, for
the most part, not up to par. We feel like we did all of the troubleshooting and fixing by ourselves.
One of the big selling points of the Avid
system over Protools in the beginning
was the promised (and expensive) software support. In the beginning, we were pretty well taken care of,
but, ever since Digi took over support of the
platform, no one seems to know anything about
our systems. I sincerely hope that this gets
addressed when the "improved" protools system comes out.
Don't get me wrong....
we use the audiovision constantly, and really
like the platform. We'd just like to be taken care of a little better.
