Is it true that Digi does not support the Mac platform for Icon? This is what I was led to beleive, and I see no mention of platforms in any of the blurb. However, I notice on page 20 of the brochure (mix engine) that the screen is an OSX one.

The ICON is Pro Tools HD dependent, not OS Platform dependent.

Hello. I wonder if you are referring to the Venue instead of the Icon. The Venue has a PC inside it and apparently in the beginning few months will only have compatibility to PC based Pro Tools systems.

But HD like any Protools system requires a "Host" computer ......surely? I mean your PCI Accel cards have to go some where. Unless they are now running the Host with proprietry software, ie no windows or whatever OS, just Protools?

Hello. As I mentioned above, I think you are thinking of the Venue digital live console, not the Icon. The Icon is a controller that only works with Pro Tools, the same as a Control 24. It just does a lot more than the Control 24. But it does work with both PC and Mac based Pro Tools systems. Again the Icon is just a controller. Without Pro Tools, the Icon is absolutely useless.

The Venue live digital console has a computer as part of the system. That computer is a PC. The Venue is a console that does pass audio and does have processing. You can use it by itself. Or you can have what they call Pro Tools Recording Options. Basically it's hardware interfaces that would connect the Venue to either an LE system or an HD system. The LE option is Windows only for a while, the TDM is both Mac and PC.

I think this is what you are referring to. But the Icon is compatible with both Mac and PC TDM systems.

Just for terminology sake .... D-control is the actual controller that is part of an Icon system .... Icon is the term used for a system ...; and integrated console system that actually consists of a configuration of different elements which are : Your DSP / IO configuration (PT HD system if you like with a certain number of interfaces). and the D-control controller.

I know ... it can get confusing but maybe we should give it a try. Icon is the complete system ... D-control is the controller.

Thanks all, the above was all I was after. Here in Sydney the I've heard it said more than once that Avid will only support PC fo Icon system purchases, but this does not seem to be the case overseas (overseas for me that is). My momentarily Idle brain was starting to work up a conspiracy theory about Digidesign abandoning Mac support in the not too distant future.

As a default, out of the box, the D-Control comes with a Mac keyboard. If you want to run it on a PC based system, you need to switch a handfull of (included) keycaps.
