In an AES teaser piece (near the editors comments), Howard Schwartz is quoted saying that he was looking at buying into the ICON because it is a fantastic value- He just wanted to be sure it sounded good...
I do not think that an ICON should have much affect on the way HD sounds- Am I wrong?
Mind you, I am beginning to pine for one...

it sure seems to change/enhance the way people work a PT rig which no doubt has an effect on the sound. hopefully for the better.

Very excellent point. I have done several mixes on the icon and I am 100% sure that the console effects the sound do to the physical integration that you have with all the action inside the computer.

All that is true, but I think the context of Mr. Schwartz' comment is pretty funny

yes, that is a funny thing to say, unless he was talking abou tthe monitor controller! the only thing that affects the sound directly. Very interesting though, the other issue. I mix on a Pro Control, and before that a hui. I have friends who turn out excellent work on a mouse alone. I am looking forward to working in a room with an icon. I think it will open up new ways of working with PT once you get to know it physically.
I think that will definately translate into better sounding mixes.

I think he may mean the sound of X-MON, the monitor section of D-Control.

Yes, I HOPE that was what he was referring to. I can't imagine Mr. Schwartz is among those who don't realize that it's a controller, not a console in the traditional sense, so that the monitor section is really the ONLY thing that would/could give it a "sound". And even then, only in the monitor chain
