Is this true? A friend just told me an iLok is REQUIRED to PT LE M-Powered to work. Why is that? Why not just the hardware dongle like regular LE?

A pre-authorized iLok with the Pro Tools M-Powered authorization is required to use the software, and is included with all M-Powered purchases (see compatibility documents). The authorizaton can be transferred to another iLok if desired, but both the M-Audio hardware and the authorized iLok are required for Pro Tools M-Powered to launch.

GOOD GRIEF, digi!! as if one "dongle" wasn't enough. are you guys even embarrased about this? for the record, i was pretty excited reading this stuff about PTM, until i read that. do you guys have any understanding of how nice it is to edit in the field without needing to have all this luggage? oh well, i guess i'll keep shopping...

No way at all to just use the iLok to launch it for editing?

I like the integrated product, using PTLE and my Mbox. I don't mind much the fact that I have to use it that way because it makes a complete and reliable system. However, an iLok AND hardware is pathetic. I realize that you could pirate it otherwise on any M-Audio hardware but come on....that is rediculous.

Let me ask you this. If you owned DIGI, wouldn't you come up with a solution to protect your product. Being that you don't need a DIGI interface to run PT M-P, this was their only solution and a smart one. Take it from someone who got screwed with his own software company.

Lemme see.. Laptop has two USB's.
1) Audio interface
2) USB midi keyboard
3) Dongle.

(Lets ignore perhaps 4) Mouse 5) ADSL connection 6) Control surface)

Houston, we have a problem.

Fortunately for me I'll be using a PC and 1010lt , but with all the USB junk I've already got, I wont pretend to not resent having ANOTHER bloody dongle on my machine.

Can someone explain in one sentence how the user benifits by these things?

Trust the customers! We know best.

Unfortunately, due to rampant piracy, the iLok is required for operation of a Pro Tools M-Powered system. If the iLok was not used, someone could purchase a copy of PTMP and give it to everyone that owns compatible M-Audio hardware for free.

Alright, that's just as simple as it is. We have to see PTMP like every other Audio-Software with dongle (e.g. Cubase, Logic, ...) on the market. But wait! ... it isn't like any other software on the market, there's a big limitation with PTMP: Only M-Audio hardware is working!! What a pity!!Wouldn't it be nice if every Audio interface is working with PTMP. I think there's no reason why it shouldn't work. There's a software with dongle on only one workstation and so you can use it with any interface without piracy.
M-Audio products are good for their money, but does it make sense to limit PTMP only for M-Audio interfaces to sell more M-Audio products? Or does it make more sense to use it with more and better interfaces to let Pro Tools M-Powered sound better and to sell more software?
