Hey guys,

Considering getting an M-Powered setup based around the Ozonic, I was wondering if this laptop is compatible? And if so, how it would hold up i.e. how well can it cope with a lot of programs running at once (for example, doing a live show or similar)

There's where I'd be buying it from

That's the official site link

Hi,

I could borrow Ozonic from my Music shop.

Some notations:

1) First when I was installing the drivers on my laptop (Toshiba P4 3.06 Ghz) I found out that Ozonic does not get AC Power from 4 pin FW or PCMCIA FW cards!!! Only 6 pin - directly in the computer - FW contact supported.
As much as I can (maybe) understand why, this is a MAJOR problem for all of us who would like to use our PC-s on the road!
Why not a battery alternative???

2) For live performance, the whole system seems to be not solid enough.
It's quite easy to loose the contact between your laptop and Ozonic.
Twice risky when you also need a AC adapter!

My personal conclusions are:

On the road, the M-box is still the best way to go. Take your laptop, the M-box, a USB (small) MIDI controller (maybe an extra battery for the computer), and you'll be able to have lots of fun. Not much more uncomfortable than Ozonic (which will not work at all, unless you have a laptop with 6 pin FW, and they are not many on the PC side!).

Live: use a god FW card (If you need PT - Digi 002r).
Use your old synth (Roland, Korg, etc...) as a MIDI controller.
You'll be MUCH more safe. Don't forget all the vibrations from drums or bass, etc...This, together with the fact that you're actually playing on the Ozonic makes me be very skeptical about this solution, so I'll wait.

....because, the concept is still GREAT. Just need to be better developed.

Peace

/P.

Would this system work with the BFD software from FXpansion? Just curious...

I have a Digi001 running PT5.3.1 and an upgrade to many of the new music creation tools would be awesome.

Thanks,
Eric

Hello again,

I did have some fun with Ozonic at home, but the point is still : portability!
In my case, but I guess not only...
The laptop Joe want to buy (TravelMate 4101) has only 1 FW 4 pin contact!!!!
So, no work on the road!

Live, they are also other better solutions, i.m.h.o.

At home worked fine for me too. I lost the contact with the computer twice. Still don't know if it was the FW cable or the AC adapter. I guess the last one, because i've got a short power off.
This was when i tried to look on the back side of Ozonic to check the I/O.
No big deal under the circumstances, but on stage ????
(On another thread someone loves his Ozonic except the fact that the headphones out, loses contact )):-

Also, for studio work I can (I already) have other solutions.

Yes, you can take your Ozonic - laptop setup easily on another location and do some work.
Not much, tough. Only 1 mic. IN .....etc...

On the other hand with an Acer Aspire 1800, you have at least the possibility to work on the road (both 4 and 6 pin FW! Great! ... but expensive! ).

Just my 02....

A...and I miss the SPDIF (at least) I/O.
It's there on the M-box )):-

the 1800 has ony 1 4 pin fire wire port ..which i can see being a pain but i only need portability not the need to work on a bus or train for that the m-box is the only sollution besides a battery pack for the ozonic (which wouldnt be to hard to make) spidif would be nice but not a deal breaker for me, but could be for those with chanel strips with spdif out.

It stays both 4 and 6 (powered) FW!

Well, the information is unclear.
Anyhow, this just shows that "I am right".

Unfortunately!
I would like to be 100% happy with the Ozonic on PC laptops.

Maybe Ozonic 2:
- Power from batteries as well (or USB...)
- Stereo Microfon inputs (2 Mono...)
- SPDIF I/O.
- 49 version as well...

to start with...
