Hi all,

I've recently installed some new plugins. All listed in the Venue Compatibility list and used the last version of installers find in the digidesign website.

Everytime I reboot I'm having a TPkd error and of course I cannot use plugins, it reads something like that:

‘Initialization Error’
‘TPkd driver required, and a reboot. Please reboot or reinstall the software.’

I understand that some plugin has installed an old version of PACE drivers, my question is, is it safe to reinstall the last PACE drivers from their website version 5.3.3.2387 ? any other solution?

thank you,

rgr

Hi,

Which version of D-Show is installed on the console? The latest VENUE plug-in installers are supported by D-Show version 1.1 or higher, and D-Show automatically installs the correct PACE driver.

D-Show console updates are available through Digidesign Customer Service (http://www.digidesign.com/aboutus/contact/).

Yes, you can update and/or reinstall Pace drivers using the installer provided by Pace on the internet. The description looks worse than it is.
To do that:
- download the installer from Pace's web site: http://paceap.com/dldrvr.html
- extract the setup.exe from the zip archive and put it on a usb key disk
- insert the keydisk in the console
- exit the D-Show software and go to the desktop: press control while selecting Shutdown from the D-Show UI
- navigate to the keydisk and run the installer.
- restart

Hopefuly, the plug-in that was unhappy is now satisfied.

ps: Sheldon make a good point asking which version of the software you are running. If you haven't upgraded to 2.0 yet (recommended!), you should at the very least use 1.1.1, which comes with the Pace drivers version 5.3 (current version is 5.3.3, some plug-in may require the update).

Hi,

It's version 2.0 with Venue Pack Pro. All was OK before I install some other plugins.

Sheldon, Some of this plug ins has installed an old version of the PACE driver and I'm really convinced that this is the problem. I'm starting to think that is TLSpace but now, I have no time to check it out.

Georges, thank you for your help, I'm starting this afternoon a tour of 40 shows and I need to know if I can SAFELY install PACE drivers from Internet or if it is better to reinstall some plugin that comes with the last Venue Compatible Pace drivers.

Thank you again both, for your help.

Yes, it is safe. That's how D-Show installs the drivers when you update your system (as in 1.1.1) or when a plug-in needs to update the Pace drivers (only if the plug-in's version is greater than the Pace drivers installed).
It would be interesting to know which installer caused the Pace drivers to be downgraded, so that we can address the issue one way or the other. Plug-Ins with D-Show installers (the ones you can use directly from within the D-Show UI) should not cause the Pace drivers to be downgraded ever (should the installer be configured properly). If the installer is a Pro Tools installer, then the D-Show code has no control over it and the installer must do the work itself.

FYI, 5.3.3.2387 is the version of the Pace drivers pre-installed in 2.0, and that's the version we (Digidesign) currently use when we test plug-ins on Venue.

Hi Geb!

Thank you.

It's installed and working like a charm. I think it was TLSpace, but it's difficoult to know as we have authoritzation for three or four more plugins that doesn't have Venue installers (don't want to fire anybody, as I cannot reproduce the problem). Now we're already on tour for two months and I don't want to play with anymore.

If I have the oportunity to check it in another D-show I will let you know.

I was also thinking that it will be useful to have the opportunity to do an image of the actual HD install, to be able to restore it in an eventual HD crash. The process of installing plugins an authoritzations are really slow and now, I don't want to play with fire. This methode will give me the opportunity to check this things in a more safe and quick environtment.

oh, I forgot to mention that tourbuss rocks!!

Thank you all, and have a nice "d-SHOW"

First, glad to hear that things are working for you.

About TL Space: I've just downloaded & checked the latest version on their installer, and it did not downgrade the Pace drivers on Venue. That doesn't mean that the possibly older version you installed didn't do it. Regardless, you should make sure that you have the latest version of this plug-in, as important fixes were made regarding preset handling on Venue. Doing so will not downgrade your Pace drivers, but will bring fixes that you really want...

You'll find the latest TL Space here: http://www.digidesign.com/products/details.cfm?product_id=4421
The installer I tested is: "TL Space TDM Installer XP 1.1.3r5w2.exe"
(You can check what version of a plug-in is installed directly from the Venue UI: go to the Options page, Plug-Ins tab, select the plug-in you want and read the version number in the center. It should read 1.1.3r5 for TL Space).

About the HD image: The D-Show system restore CD will bring back your system (but without plug-ins) in 2 minutes using the update option (avoid the full restore option that will wipe out the User Data partition as well, which is unlikely to be necessary). You'll be able to re-install all the plug-ins with Venue installers very quickly using the "Previous Installer" option in the Venue UI.
For plug-ins without Venue installers, I recommend that you copy the installers manually on the User Data partition before you install them in the first place. That way, in case you need to restore your system, you'll be able to reinstall them all without having to hunt for your install CDs. The 30 GB of disk space available on that partition should be enough to store a few backup plug-in installers... :-)

Have a great tour!

Hi,

oh, I forgot to mention that tourbuss rocks!!

Make sure you're running the latest version of Tourbuss (1.02, available for download from our website). It fixes some issues that were found with the version 1.0 plug-in shipped w/ the D-Show Demo Plug-Ins CD.
