I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.
I am playing trumpet with a 70's 80's cover band and usually we have a trombone or tenor sax to give a bigger horn sound. The trombone/tenor usually plays most of the charts an octave below the trumpet.
I was wondering whether I could come close to replicating this sound live on stage(with just the trumpet) by hooking my mike up to my mbox & laptop which is then connected to the main mixing desk for the band. Is there a plugin that will maintain the trumpet sound and also double up with an octave pitch below all in real time to give a big fat sound?
I have thought (but not yet tried) of using an octave pedal for a guitar or bass..any thoughts on this?
Regards,
David

Hi,

You may be able do this w/ an Mbox and a pitch plug-in; definitely check to see if the latency is acceptable. You'll also need to set up the right wet/dry mix between the raw trumpet sound and the effect.

Check out the VoiceLive from tc-helicon (http://www.tc-helicon.com/VoiceLive). It's designed to interface w/ a microphone (most guitar effects pedals aren't) and it has a pass through so the "clean" trumpet sound can be sent directly to a mixing board - sound engineers will appreciate having this flexibility . You can also do more complex harmonies with it, if you're so inclined. I've seen this product demoed at trade shows - it's a bit pricey ($800) but very cool.
