Well as I'm sure you all know about the new Metalica CD

Everyone is talking about the over all Level being to Hot and the Guitar Hero Version is much better

Well I think whatever Plugin they are using for Guitar Simulation sounds horrible!!!!

They are getting so much PR from this it's incredible and that's what it's all about!!!

I don't care about the level it's Heavy Metal!!!

I never Used the Word Quality in the same sentence as Heavy Metal

But please Get the guitars right, I've have used the word Cheese in the same sentence with Guitar tone!!!!

Maybe Just poorly recorded Guitar amps!!!

Maybe they should have used Eleven!!!!

It seems everyone all over the Music Internet are discussing the level and not even listening to the guitars!!!!

How true is it that they are getting so much attention from this

What a great publicity stunt!!!!! I wish I thought of it!!!!

Growing up in this Biz I was always told Any PR is Good PR you have to worry when they don't talk about you at all!!!!

not sure if it was so much publicity as opposed to dropping the ball. The guitar sound is fine. It was just mixed WAY TOO HOT.

I'm not sure the PR is good at all this time. There is a petition on the web put up by Metallica fans demanding a recall of the CD. They've probably got 10,000 signatures by now. This new CD mix/master is just bad. I've heard that the guy who mastered it said it was mixed so loud that there wasn't much he could do with it when he got it. This could be the straw that breaks the camel's back in the loudness war. It's hard to believe just how unlistenable this CD is. I heard a song from the CD on the radio about a month ago and was floored. No way I'd buy it.

There is a long thread over on the 3db forum about this CD.

My first thought on hearing this a month ago was that A) the drums had been quantized and B) That it had been mastered using tin cans and twine instead of speakers. The kiddies need to keep signing the petitions and should start returning the CD's to retailers, or attempting to do so and raising a big enough stink that the retailers complain to the distributors. I'd like to see this have a silverlining.

My moneys staying in my pocket on this one.

The only solution would be to not listen to Metallica after their first four albums.

The other post has links to the Wall Street Journal article about the CD being too loud!!!!

I'm still thinking Publicity Stunt And Copies of the CD are selling real cheap at Walmart!!!!

It's a Bad production they knew it Probably spent nothing to make it, put it out waiting for the tour and the real $$$$$

Any legal purchases of the CD is Gravy

One interesting note is (sorry to revive this thread) is that I've just tried the Kirk Hammett signature amp that was used to record this album I had access to all 3 modules, I used the amp with a strat and got a clearer tone, than the record, but what really struck me was when the demo someone pullet out an ESP Hammet sig guitar for me to try, so in theory, same amp, same guitar, few tweaks of the knobs and and I got 3 really good sounds, a fantastic warm clean, a great dirty mid crunch and a hot hot lead sound (maybe a little too driven on reflection) but all 3 of these sounds with identical kit to the metallica album sounded better than the small speaker badley driven sound that is on the metllica album (eg: a 5'' speaker driven with about 200 watt so you can hear the rattle of cone as part of the distortion).

Which on reflection is frustrating as it's some of their better stuff and for the first time in a while quite good stuff, well played, just let down by a muddy guitar sound over the great tone recordings I've been used to from metallica albums (even their earlier ones where hard but clear)

The CD just doesn't have the tonal characteristics of a live amp!!!

Satriani didn't use his amp much on the new cd he released!!!!

This I can agree with. The new Metallica album sucks dogs balls - It's bloody awful.

For a band with pretty much unlimited funds and time on their hands to realize their creative goals, it's a very disappointing outcome.

I'd give it more of a chance if it wasn't so painful to listen to.

The drums/hats are WAY TOO hot!

And the bottom end is too light... weakens the guitars and makes the bass disappear!
