I'm not sure if this question has been asked, but when will the official SN PT release happen?

Will there be better or different pre-releases before the final release?

The longer it takes, the more reading the DUC makes me feel like I have a sprained ankle or a broken leg.

PS The reason I ask is this is the first time I didn't feel good about updating to the latest PT, even if it's a pre-release.

I need it very very soon, too.
Looking every day in the hope its there - but......

Are there so few people who need it?
Do they all work with other DAWs?

By the looks of things it is not even close to ready. No one from digi even jumped on to say "be patient". Must be sometime next year. Just try to keep working on 10.5. I have a feeling overall this will hurt avid a lot more than it will hurt me.

look how long it took them to get 7.4 on 10.5
what i dont understand is that it work for the most part there is only a few fixes needed
hopefully they will just come out with 8.5 for win 7 an sl 10.6.x

You have to understand that 10.6.2 is right around the corner, and I'm sure the Digi / Apple collaboration might have fixes included in this OS update. For 10.5, it took Apple three point-releases to get in everything needed to enable correct CoreAudio functionality. Though, since SL doesn't have as much code, is only for Intel machines, and Apple's big push is to see the eligible installed userbase upgrade... I'm under the assumption that 10.6.2 is a major update that Digi may be waiting for to release the second preview for testing.

Hell, it includes a Sims 3 graphical error fix... It should include most of everything else.

Good to know. Any other info on when we can end the "public beta testing program" and go about our business is appreciated.

Thanks for the valuable info.
Why Digi does not inform us?
It would make the wait understandable.

Not sure if this helps but I got stuck with SL because of a new computer. After days of installing/reinstalling PTLE 8.0.1 runs solid for me on an Mac Pro 2.66 intel XEON running on 10.6.0

Could you clarify on "days installing/reinstalling" please? Did you do anything special to install the pre-release on your mac pro tower to get it to function smoothly?

Hi guys,

Not been on the DUC for a while, but i have just bought a new macbook pro with 10.6 SL and im not encouraged by the comments so far about PTLE 8.0.3pr. Should i wait for the official release or should i downgrade my OS to 10.5.8? Productivity wise i can still use my PC with pro tools, so i'm not in a desperate hurry.

Also i visited the avid support centre to ask for an indication of when the official release would be available and got this back:

"Hello Mr Proudfoot,

I'm afraid we are unable to give any indication of a release date for Pro Tools 8 for Snow Leopard, the best suggestion I can make is to keep checking our website for the latest information relating to new releases.

Best Regards,

Benjy"

I'm annoyed that Avid couldn't even give a hint and i hope they realize that people's productivity depends on this release and surely Avid should have been working with Apple whilst 10.6 was in development?!

anywho thats my rant

I haven't had any real problems, except that the notation thingy doesn't seem to work. I have Finale for that anyway.

It's quirky, but again, no chronic problems. At least not yet. :o

Since you can still work with PT on your PC, I'd say go for it.
