Why is AVID behind other companies in compatibility?

I have the Axiom Pro which is extremely flakey in 8.0.3pr. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Ableton have already enhanced the way the Axiom Pro works with Live (it's perfect in their latest beta) but I still can't get it to work in Pro Tools 8.0.3. Why can't AVID get their own products working together before a third party developer?

Snow Leopard is announced since Mid 2008.
Still no reliably working update for PT.
Completely apart that this waiting time will not bring new features or be compatible with 64 bits ...

We love ProTools - does ProTools love us?
As a professional user - what will be the consequence?
