Hi Dave!
There's a new version of the Adaptec Powerdomain control panel out that works with the v4.1 firmware. Is this the update we've been waiting for? Can the 4.1 firmware be used now?
Thanks!

The 4.1 firmware is for Blue & White G3s, so if you've got a B&W, go for it. The new control panel will allow you once again to reduce the bus speed of the cards to 10MHz (20MB/sec).
It's highly recommended that you upgrade your OS to 8.6 with the B&W, and run the Mac ROM updater (1.1 is the filename on their website, I belive) which will fix lots of PCI bus traffic problems.
The ROM update along with the new control panel for the Adaptecs should work just fine.

I understand the firmware v.4.1 is correcting problems in B&W macs, but I assume it's ok to upgrade to 4.1 in my 9600 ?
There's been some compability issues about some G3-accelerators and the adaptec 2940.
(The thing w. predictive addressing of I/O devices, - not allowed w. 604 ROM'S)
This issue regarding the 2940 might be fixed !? - hope so :-)

I don't know the specifics of the 4.1 firmware except that it is required for the B&W G3 (Open Firmware compliant).
If your current system is operating smoothly you may want to consider standing pat. If I can get better information on the details, I'll post it if Adaptec will permit me.

No problem. My brother's name is Dave, so I'm used to it. http://www.digidesign.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi Steve,
I'm wondering if I should upgrade or stay put. All this version tweaking makes my head spin. Why should I get excited about an upgrade, if everything is working now?
Anyway, here's what I've got:
9500/150 with 288MB RAM
Newer Tech MaxPowr G3 300/1M/150
Adaptec 3940UW with 3.0 firmware
PT Mix Plus, plus 2 original farms
Stock ATI graphics card
OS 7.6.1 because I'm disgusted with OS 8
PT version 4.32
FWB HDT 2.5.2
Power Domain 3.0 Control Panel
So, my question is, is there any reason to upgrade Power Domain software and 3940 firmware?

Hi Lou,
I wouldn't bother. If it ain't broke...
The new firmware/control panel is primarily for operation on the Blue and Whites. If your system is stable, I'd recommend staying put, since you're not using a Blue and White.
