So, I'm making a massive new round of purchases of stuff (FUN!) and am looking at my old hot Cheetahs (4x9GB) with a hateful eye. I've burnt three of these up over the last year, plus they sound kinda scary when they're hot.
New drive candidates are: new generation Cheetahs--the 36 GB ones, or 18 GB's. OR Barracuda 50GB, or 18's.
Main issues are: 1. with such large drives are seek times going to be a problem?
2. are Cheetahs (vs Barracudas) really that much more useful? Aren't the speeds of the Cudas at the max capacity of PT to deal with data anyway? I split my tracks up over 4 drives, and have very heavy edit density frequently.
thanks
PS, with the bigger drives, I'll partition into 18GB blocks, and all this stuff is going into Kingston trays.
