Norton or No?

What's the best disc utility to use? I've been using Norton Utilities v. 3.5 with OS 8.1 and PT 4.3. I've got an Adaptec 2940UW and Barracudas. A tech supt. phoner told me never to Norton. And let me throw this one out there: My PT drive on the Adaptec bus regularly goes AWOL; refuses to mount; at times shows as a "irreparably damaged" casualty. Is Norton doing this?

Very unlikely that Norton is causing those problems, more likely to be an iffy drive.

However with OS 8.1 make sure you have Norton v3.5.2 If you only have v3.5 there are known compatabiity problems with Norton.
