The LVD drives will revert to non-LVD mode when used with either the 2940UW (not 2940U2W, right?) or older Ultra SCSI drives. Unfortunately, they also revert to the short cables limits (1.5 meters) according to the standard. The 1.5 meters is from one end of the bus to the other -- terminator to terminator. This has to include all the cable inside the drives, too. Assuming you aren't running an internal bus, this works out to be about a foot of cable per drive. If you buy cables from Granite digital, www.scsipro.com, (or someplace like that), you can go further. It's still very hard to make 4 separate cases work. Two starts becoming possible and putting all 4 drives in one cases is easiest.
