I just installed a NewerTech G3 (400/200) upgrade card in my 8600/300.
I have a Adaptec 2940UW attached to a barracuda 4 gig internally.I
cannot mount the barracuda??? Any ideas or suggestions.

I'm aware of an incompatibility with the PowerLogix upgrade card and Adaptec, but I hadn't heard anything about NewerTech. I'd suggest checking NewerTech's website to see if they have any information.

Having said that, what happens if you swap the old processor card back into the machine? Check that out to see if the drive mounts. If it does, I'd say it's an incompatibility between the NewerTech card and the Adaptec. If it doesn't, we'll have to look at other possibilties.

I have a Newer G3 400/200 in a 9600 - (Tsunami board, not Kansas) and a 2940 UW and all is well. Maybe it is an issue with 9/8600s at and above above 300Mhz. I'm running OS 8.6/PT 4.3.2/DAE 3.4.2. Maybe you should check out www.xlr8yourmac.com for very up todate info on this issue. Stay in touch as there are alot of 9/8600 PT users out there, who could benefit from this info.

I found this in Adaptec's knowledge base. All mac av owners should read this.Q: I just received a 2940UW card and it hangs my A/V Macintosh when I try to
start up.

A: Your 2940UW has been loaded with a non-A/V version 4.1 of the firmware, which
will work ONLY in non-A/V systems (A/V systems include PowerMacs 7300, 7500,
7600, 8500, and 8600). If you own an A/V Mac, you will need to reload the 4.1 firmware
onto your 2940UW, using the 2940UW v4.1 A/V Flash Utility found on the enclosed
CD-ROM.

Since you will not be able to boot your A/V Mac with the shipped 2940UW installed,
you must use a non-A/V Mac to run the A/V Flash Utility.

I did a search of Adaptec FTP site but could not find the so-called 4.1av firmware.
