Using an Ethernet Zone for the ProControl

We're setting up a new room and looking toward an expanded ethernet network for the facility. Any tips on setting up a seperate zone for the ProControl and setting up zones for workstations, printers, etc.? Can this be done with an intelligent router or must I be running an AppleShare server?
