I'm getting a "DAE error -228" that prevents ProTools 5.0.1 FREE from launching. Anyone overcome this one ? Is there an index of error codes I can refer to ?

Hi,
I've got the same problem. Are you by any chance using MacOS 9.0?
In that case, maybe you (we) should update to MacOS 9.0.4...

Anyway, I've got a similar problem with Cubase VST 3.5.2.
I think there may be a bug in the Mac SoundManager.
I have the same problem on a G4 with OS 8.6. Somebody told me it may be a problem with the sound manager, but I have the latest QuickTime version that installs sound manager.
Also, I made sure I had no DAE or DigiDesign files from former installs on my hard drive.

I have the same problem on a G3/400 laptop running system 8.6. Did upgrading to 9.0.4 seem to help this for anyone out there?
Thanks!

I also had problems launching ProTools Free.
(DAE lack of memory + could not open the WaveShell from the file menu.)
But after I moved the Pluggins folder in the DAE folter, to the applications folder first level, everything workes fine.

I've got the solution for you (at least this worked on my 9500 with OS 8.6). Go to apple menu > control panels > sound. Set the input and the output to built in. Pro Tools Free 5.01 should launch fine at this point.

I get the same thing running in "Classic" mode off of OS X 10.1.2 on my G4 Titanium Powerbook. I tried switching to "internal" as suggested before, but same results. Is there a way of fixing this?

I'm so confused, I've been trying to open PT FREE a week ago, but the first message: "DAE error -228 was encountered". I did change the memory preferences, and I thought "just was the memory", but after, the next message: "PT requires OMS 2,1 or greater in order to run".
The subject is that I was installed with a CD the PT FREE and OMS 2,3,8 and It didn't work, then I deleted everything (I think ) about PT, but not about OMS. Now I didn't download OMS, because a have it.
Question: Is there some specific place for OMS?. I change from system folder to applications folder the OMS application to try. I looked for OMS by Sherlock, and I found various OMS in different folders.
I need to know What kind of OMS file (applicaation for ex)? and Where it must to be?, How many files are pertain to it?
I have an I Mac G3 500 (with the OS 9,2 and OS X).
I live in a town and Idon't have anybody for help me.
Thanks a lot.

Folks, try doing a DUC search (PT Free Only) & you will find answers. It was several months ago when a "bunch" of us went thru this...

For DAE errors, click on the Answerbase link and type in the error number:
228

Go to the Sound Control Panel and set your Input and Output to Built In.

If that doesn't solve the problem, you may need to also delete the Sound preferences from your System Folder/Preferences folder along with the DigiSetup file and restarting the Mac.

I had an error message (-227 error) which was caused from starting UglyVSTi first and then trying to start PTF which made PTF quit.
The fix is to make sure nothing else is running first - start PTF and then start all other programs.
Also I noticed alot of you are using newer systems running OSX/OS9 - I hope everyone knows that PTF doesnt work in classic mode while running OSX.
You have to boot into OS9 only to use PTF.
