First off, thanks to Digi for PT Free - great idea! However, there is one small problem when used with MOTU hardware (2408, 1224 etc). You have to set the "Sound Input" in the "Sound" control panel to "Built In" and not "PCI 324" otherwise PT Free hangs on startup with a "DAE -50" error. Even though this IS stated in the documentation, what this means in practice is that you can't RECORD into PT Free using the MOTU hardware. Now, other audio programs like Peak and Spark support this use of the PCI 324 driver - but not DIGI. What gives? BTW - I would be quite willing to PAY for a full-featured version of ProTools that supported my MOTU hardware.

Someone just emailed me aboutt a work-around for the above problem. Apparently you can switch the Sound Input in the Sound cControl Panel back to "PCI 324" after PT Free has loaded and it works fine. I haven't had a chance to try it but I'll let you know.

It doesn't work. I tried it. If anyone has an alternative solution, I'm all ears.

Thx.

Hi guys, don't you know that Israel and Palastine are at war, and so are Digi and MOTU? One armed with Digi001, the other with 2408, I don't see (in the near future at least) they will ever reach to a peace talk.

Hi - anyone figured this out as yet? What about it Digi?

guys,
PT supports ONLY Digi hardware- period. There is no workaround (that I've ever seen) and its not a bug that will be 'fixed.' That's the digidesign way...

best,
brian

"PT supports ONLY Digi hardware- period."

The whole point of PTFree is that it can run on other hardware.

From the digi website:
http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/ptfreefeat.html
"Runs on third party hardware with standard Windows 98 Wave Driver or Macintosh Sound Manager support"

Now whether it actually runs on all sound cards is another issue - hopefully digi will improve compatibility in future versions.

Wow...I did not realize that! I stand corrected!
