I do not see a way to import OMF Files from MC/Symphony. Do we actually need to buy a $500 Digitranslator utility to convert the OMFI to a Pro Tools session to use a free version of the software?

OMF tool will work fine and it is free. It creates a PT 4.0 version session which opens fine. The first time you save the session it will ask for a name to be input and will save session as a vers. 5. OMF tool is on Digis web site under support and downloads. DigiTrans has lots of other useful features, but yes they do cost $$.

OMF tool 2.0.8 will not work with the new versions of OMFI in Symphony 3/MC 10 and express 4. Digidesign is forcing us to spend $500 beans on a simple conversion utility: digitranslator.

I have just downloaded the PT free and tried to import an OMF file from Final Cut Pro to it. I don't see any way of doing this. Can it be done?
