View Full Version : Does anyone understand midi clock for PTLE?

I can choose the midi commands for click, Click options, enable midi beat clock, midi through.
I can click the "midi Device/Channel Selector" and my drum machine is there so OMS is setup properly. (I guess?)
I press play/record and there is no click, no clock pulse no nothing, the drum machine just sits there.
I have read the Quickstart guide to no avail, and in the reference guide there is only a token reference to beat clock. Still no help.
How do I create a tempo map so I can sync an external drum machine (or sequencer) to ProTools Free audio tracks. I feel stupid.
Can anyone help?

To sync external drum machines, first make sure that the drum machine is represented in your OMS Studio Setup (you can use the "New Device" command in Studio Menu of OMS Setup to create a representation of your drum machine). Double click on the icon of your drum machine and enable it to send and receive MIDI Beat Clock (receive being the most important here). Next, in Pro Tools, got to MIDI>MIDI Beat Clock and enable MIDI Beat Clock and enable the drum machine, which should be listed below, by putting an "X" next to it (if it is not, you can instead try enabling your MIDI interface to receive MIDI Beat Clock by putting an "X" next to it).

Thanks "lagasus"!
The "new device" selection in OMS fixed the ID problem for the drum machine so now it can slave to PT Free! I've always used "easy setup" and never tried "new device" before. Cool.
Next I want to sync my Roland hard disc recorder to PT Free and the drum machine. The manuals seem to suggest using MMC and MTC. Sounds like fun.
I'm sure I will be back on the DUC soon begging for more help.
People like you make DUC a valuable resource. Thanks again!
