I'm having trouble importing CD Audio on PT Free for the Mac.

I've got a G3 powerbook, with the supplied DVD-Rom drive.

When I go to the "Import Audio from Other Movie" option and select the CD ("Audio CD 1" on the desktop) there are no tracks inside.

Using the finder I can see the tracks in there...

Is there some trick that I don't know about? Does the free version not support this? Has anyone else had this problem?

I've got the Quicktime player on the mac, but not any creation tools... do I need them?

Thanks!
Colin

I just checked this on my G3 PowerBook with Pro Tools FREE and it worked fine.
Open Pro Tools FREE
New Session (16-bit)
Import Audio From Other Movie...
Navigate to CD, choose track
(this is where you seem to be stopped, not seeing any tracks)
File Menu- Import Audio/Track
Select the audio from other movie file.

It may be that you are trying to extract audio from a CD that has some newer copy inhibitor encoded in it. I've seen a few of those. I would try a few other CDs and see if you have the same problem.

Another way you could try is to first extract the audio to your hard drive as an AIFF before importing it into Pro Tools. QuickTime Pro, Toast, SoundJam MP Plus, and a number of other programs can do that, including SoundApp, which is free.

You can find it by searching www.versiontracker.com (http://www.versiontracker.com)

It's possible that you have an extension conflict or extensions disabled that you need to see the tracks on the CD.
Try running only Pro Tools without any other programs open to see if that helps. If you have Pro Tools open, then the Apple CD player won't see the tracks on the CD at the same time.
Try enabling the Extension set for MAC OS All, plus all of the QuickTime, OMS, and Digi extensions. You may also want to do a full re-install of QuickTime 4.1.2. (I'd stay away from the QuickTime 5.0 pre-release beta at least until you get everything working on your system)
Let me know if any of this helps.
