I can't seem to get PTfree to bounce to disk. It says that I need more CPU Power and won't continue. I'm running a Blue and White G3 350 mhz with 384 MB of RAM.

I had the same problem, fixed it by changing the DAE buffer setting to 1 or 0,maybe you could try that.

Thank You! That did it.

I just started using the ProToolsFree and keep getting bounced out of "bounce to Disk". It keeps telling me it is running out of CPU power and that I should reduce some of my plug-ins. I'm currently using VocAlign to do dialog replacement for a video.

I've readjusted the DAE buffer to all combinations of settings. No luck.

I've boosted the RAM allocation to both the DAE (60M) and ProTools (300M). I've also readjusted the CPU Usage Limit. (60% to 85%).

I'm running a 9500 with a G3 266Mhz card and OS 8.6.

The older Free ProTools works quite nicely.

Help.

300 MB for Pro Tools? Try somewhere in between a quarter or half of that. You might be crowding the OS if you are giving all of the RAM to Pro Tools.

Try reducing your Disk Cache to a custom setting of 2048 (or even as low as 512, but 2048 works for me) in your Memory Control Panel and restart. Bounce to Disk is known to cause crashes if the Disk Cache is set too high.

Bruce,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm really stumped on this one. I installed ProToolsFree on a G3-300 system (in addition to our 9500 with a MaxPwr G3 266 processor) and I get the same results when trying to bounce to disk. It still says the CPU is running out of power and that I have too many plug-ins running. I have no active RTS plug-ins. I only used one audio-suite plug-in (VocAlign) and I'm trying to write one track to disk.

I've reduced by RAM allocation from 300 (out of 450) to 100. I've readjusted the cache to a lower level. No good.

I'm running 8.6 on both machines. Is that the problem?

Well Ron, I was going to try to help you, but I went to the University of Kansas, so you can see my dilemma....

Just kidding. http://www.digidesign.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif
I'll ask some folks and see if anything jumps out from your situation.
