View Full Version : VX Pocket Playback

I've read about recording trouble with the VX Pocket, but I have pauses in playback too. I've worked with buffers, given lots of ram to both Pro Tools Free and DAE, tried no plug ins, tried a just stereo track, tried both Digital and Analog outs and I still get a pause several times during playback. I can load up with tracks and Plug-ins with just the sound out (Built in), but my BookEnz Doc for my Wallstreet G3 300, has shorted out the Headphone jack. I hate to spend a 100 bucks to fix it when I have other Digital/Analog I/O's.
Any Ideas?

What drivers are you using? Latest is 2.6, but that doesn't solve recording problems with PT Free? Does sound playback fine through sound manager? What about without the dock? What kind of problems happen when playinback via VX pocket? Glitches, distorion? Need more info.

Thanks for the response. I hope this info helps. It's great to be able to take ruffs home the the studio where I'm recording my CD and play with the mix.
The problem is a simple very short pause during playback at times of no repeating order, they happen at different times but every time. These are very short, 100th of a second pauses but very audible. It doesn't seem to matter the number of tracks I use or plug-ins I use. No other programs running. I have Apple talk off. I'm not using Midi. It is the same for Analog or Digital out. It works fine with just the Sound Manager (Built in). Problems are docked and undocked. I've optimized the drive. Done Norton and Tech Tools. Deck II plays back fine. Peak and Sound Edit 16 Fine.
Here are the setting as I know them:
OS 9.0.4
Total RAM 192 megs
Latest Drivers: 2.6.0
50 megs to Pro Tools Free
40 Megs to DAE
8 meg DAE Buffer
512K Disk Cache
I've played with the size of both the buffers and Disk Cache and Pro Tools and DAE.
Sound card replacement in the WallStreet laptop is $180 for the card and $110 Labor at Computerware here in the Bay Area. Almost as much as the VX pocket cost me. I can get the mini plug to work with a lot of work, but not while docked. The Dock is what caused the short.
Again thanks for the help.

One more thing.
I do get a weird distortion when playback first begins. This is solved my opening the hardware menu and then closing it. It doesn't seem to matter that I change the CPU % or not. It just likes the attention. I leave the CPU % on 80%. After I "set" that playback is fine except for the pauses as stated in my last post. Anyone else get that one?
Thanks,
Jay

I 'm running the same configuration as yours but on a new 400meg powerbook.
I don't get the weird distortion thing but do get the horrible playback , etc thru the vx pocket card.
The guys at digigram say they are working on a solution. I guess if we all ask them often enough it might happen faster

Another weird thing is you can bounce a mix to disk. Open it up in PEAK and it plays fine. Kinda strange but at least you can mix with plug-ins and get a nice mix. It would be great to get P.T. Free to work with the VX though. I'll drop Digigram an email.
Thanks for the feed back.
