Uninstalling the Plug-in has not helped!!

Any assistance much appreciated...

Hi ProTeum,

After launching Pro Tools Free (but before opening or creating a session), bring up the Setups/Hardware dialog and press OK. Then try opening/creating your session.

Kenn,
I just downloaded and installed PT free on my machine. I don't seem able to save a new session, or even open the demo session for that matter. When I click save or open, the computer does nothing, and all I can do is click cancel.
I tried your suggestion of going into Hardware, then click OK, but it does nothing.

Can you provide some help here? I'm not sure what version I'm using, but it's the one on the digi website. Thanks in advance.

Take the Ram out. I have seen similar posts on the ptle forum. It seems there is a bug in windows that makes your system slower if you have more then 512MB memory...

I recently downloaded PT Free...problem is that I can't seem to get it to open & work for me properly. I can get to the point of "New Session"...but then a message pops up telling me that..."ProTools was not able to reaquire the hardware, and must now exit. More system hardware is needed, try quitting other applications,allocating LESS memory to ProTools & DAE, or install more memory Memery ID=6008".............HUH?! I checked with a producer friend, he has the exact computer that I have. His version (also free off the net) works. I have 20 gigs & 128 megs.....as I understand it, this program SHOULD work.

HELP!!!!!!

Dont you have some other resident programs that use sound? Try quitting all programs and have protools as the only program. Disable everythig you dont need to test ptle. (stuff like modem, network card, etc). You can do the by rightclicking on "my computer" /properties/ then select a device by doubleclick and choose "disable in this hardware-profile". This way you can later switch them on again without having to install everything from scratch...

Once you have the bare system, uninstall and reinstall prtools. Try to run it, play some tracks, record some tracks etc. and then you slowly start enabling everything again...one at a time...that way you will find the card or program that is causing the problems

Now my PTF freezes at the startup while DAO is loading (says DAO loading... under loading bar). This occured after I installed more RAM! Now I have 1 GB of DDR RAM. Is it too much for PTF or what?!? Anyone?

PTF works only with Win98 and WinME, right? Do you know if WinME can handle more then 512MB RAM? If I'd use it instead of Win98 then?

If you are running Windows 98/98SE, go to Control Panel>System>Performance>Virtual Memory and choose "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings" and set the minimum and maximum values to 1 1/2(some people like to set it at 3 times) the size of your RAM(so if you have 256MB Ram, set BOTH values to 384)they have to be the same or Windows will crash.

Then go Start>Run and type in "sysedit" in the command line, without the quotations. Choose the system.ini window and go to the line called "vcache". Place your cursor directly under the vcache title and type in the 2 following lines exactly as written below;

MinFileCache=51200
MaxFileCache=51200

This allows your hardrive to cache up to 50MB instead of the Windows default of 1-4MB.

These settings work well, I was running 768MBRam and PTF with no problems using those settings(running XP now, which won't run PTF at all)

I've been having exactly the same problem. PTF just won't let me do anything (save/open/new) at all. I am using Win 98 with an Avance AC97 Audio card (built in to motherboard) and a pentium 4. Someone please help us!

I believe I had this problem when I first started using PT Free. If I remember correctly the program wouldn't do anything because PT Free didn't see an audio card. Try going to the windows control panel under the multimedia icon and make sure the card you are using is selected for recording and playback. Other than that I would say that it could be a memory size problem or the sample size is too large. ie. Try lowering the H/W buffer size. I hope that helps.
