what are you guys using to create these OMS Names compatible documents (Galaxy/Sound Diver) Let me nkow PLEAAAASEEE!!!!!!

HI there XX,

There's an application bundled with ProTools called OMS Names. It is also available from the Digidesign site. Unlike the similar Opcode product, this version doesn't require use of an Opcode MIDI interface. ie. It'll work happily with whatever one you're using eg. Digi001.

Rather than manually type up 1000 or so patch names for each synth, I've copied most of them directly from PDF manuals, or from text lists on various synth user-group sites.

OMS Names can be a little fiddly. The best way is to copy [apple]+[C] all your patch names in an uninterrupted string of names (one name per line, bank after bank.

Then open up OMS Names, add a new patch name document, and from the menu, add sufficient banks that you'll need. You can add the Bank MSB/LSB data later.

Now choose 'paste names' from the menu to auto-fill the list. To set the bank commands, highlight a patch from a particular bank on the list, and open up the "Bank Select/Numbering" option from the menu. Add the MSB + LSB info, the numbering scale (1-128, or 0-127), and a prefix for the bank, followed by a slash [/] eg. User 1/ or Preset 3/ etc.

I have a xv-3080. How do I get the patch names to show up in PT? I downloaded the OMS doc from the web sight; how do I implement it?

Open the OMS Names Application. Find you synth in the list and single click on the area where the library should be placed. Go to Menu Bar and open Subscribe. Find the Library you want and double click or click on Open. If you can't find the library, try placing it in the Digidesign folder and try the above again. Now when you open a MIDI track in PT, go to the Mix Window and select the Synth you want for your track. Then click on "p". If a blank window opens, click on the popup button on the upper right side. From here you should find the patches you need.
