Experiencing a delay on playback when recording a new track

I am trying to record a vocal track and we're experiencing a minor delay as vocalist speaks into his mic and listens back on his headphones. I've experienced this when trying to add additional sound tracks to a prior tracks recorded. It's like it sounds off-beat but when you stop the transport and playback it's on time. Why is this happening? Is there a function that I need to set up prior to recording so that everytime I press record/play it monitors everything on time? images/icons/confused.gif

LWilliams....That was it...man thanks a lot..
