Hello,
I'm trying to get a particular vocal sound (much like The Cure use), where the vocals kind've start somewhat before the beat. Kind've like a backwards snare sound that Classic Rockers have always used. Any suggestions on how to do this in Pro Tools? Anybody know the sound I'm referring to? Thanks for any input... images/icons/smile.gif

Not sure I know what you mean, but here's a guess:
1. Reverse the first phrase (or second or so) of the vocal. Include a couple of seconds before the vocal begins (so that there will be a couple of seconds of silence at the end of the reversed region).
2. Apply delay and/or reverb.
3. Reverse again.
Is that what you mean? If so, you can use the AudioSuite Reverse and Delay plugins.

Look into reverb with pre-delay, or a chorus. That may be what they used.
name a cure song as an example.

Create an aux track and put reverb on its insert.Create a send into the vocal track and output the send to a buss(a).Input the aux track from the same buss.Output the aux track to another buss(b).Create a new track, set its input to buss(b),and set it to record 0.5-1sec of the phrase you want to do the effect(Its you, that will judge how long you will record but wait for the reverb to fade out before you stop the recording.)
Reverse the recorded audio and match the ending of it with the start of the original phrase. If there's enough room you can put it in the same track and save some for something else
I think this will do the trick

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll give that a shot. To the person who asked what Cure song I was referring to "Never Enough" had the particular vocal effect I'm trying to achieve. Thanks for all the input, much appreciated!!!

I know you could do it with soundforge (or protools if it can reverse audio). You reverse it, reverb it, then reverse it again. Or, there are processors that can do pre-verb, but they delay your signal by the decay time you set.
