View Full Version : SCSI problem

Does anyone know why my Mac should keep freezing when copying (drag & dropping) large split-stereo SDII files between internal and external hard disks? The 'Save a copy...' command works OK!
Has anyone had a similar problem? Is it SCSI-related?
I had the termination on the external HD set incorrectly for a while (whoops!) but it's OK now and the Mac still freezes.
Any help appreciated,
Marcus

P.S.: The cursor movement is 'jerky' when copying SDII files but not when copying others - e.g. MLCD image files made from the same SDII files.

Marcus, it sounds like you may have either a hard drive problem, SCSI ID or system issue.
The two process you describe, copying via the finder and "saving a copy as..." are different processes. Copying creates a new file by the Mac and Saving a copy as... is creating a new file via Sound Designer.
There are a couple of things that I would look at:
- drive integrity, run Norton disk Dr. on the drives to see if it finds any problems.
- SCSI IDs, make sure there are no two devices that share the same SCSI ID.
- SCSI termination, verify that the SCSI chain(s) are terminated correctly and not double terminated.
- SCSI cables, swap SCSI cables.
- Mac OS, try doing a clean install of an Mac OS on another drive and booting your computer from that drive.
- Try reducing the number of SCSI devices connected to your system and see if that helps.
Thanks,
