As far as I kow the only current Digi "Qualified" computer is an expensive HP Workstation. Anything else is Non tested - No known problems. As far as Dverb tests go, well its all about finding the silver bullet. The best performance Vs the least investment. At this stage of the game a Intel Quad is commodity priced.
I say for the beginner just stepping into Pro Tools that the Mbox2 Mini and the new instruments and track counts are pretty formidable compared to other platforms and the interface is included for around 295.00 USD.
You could go for a 500.00 laptop but there have been so many story's of woe with Windows laptops and PT compatibility. By shopping wisely you should be able to build a new quad for right around 600.00 and have some VERY good performance. Of course its not portable.
Recent stuff I bought.
Asus P5Q Pro 69.00 Open Box at Newegg or P5Q SE2 95.00 new at Microcenter.
2 x 2GB Corsair DDR2 800 19.00 after rebate @ Newegg.
ASUS ATI 3650 Video card 29.00 at Newegg. 19.00 after 10.00 rebate
HDD are under 50.00 each now.
The Q6600 is still 189.00 OEM
Someone always has cases with PSUs for around 79.99 or so.
A budget Quad with all new parts for around 500.00 + your OS
Add around 100.00 to 300.00 for some type of keyboard controller and or Monitors.
So 295.00+500.00+300.00=1195.00 for a Quad desktop, a Mbox2 Mini, Monitors and a keyboard controller. I would add 395.00 for the MPTK2 to this and round it down to 1500.00 cause it sounds better
Very capable system for 1500.00 or so. Midi Studio, Amp Sim, 64 Stereo tracks, Monitor's and Quad power. Yeah so its not 295.00.....You would need a Mac Pro and either Logic8 or Logic Express to touch this.
