I have been using a profile console for about a year and a half now. This console is fantastic, except for one thing...
I occasionally get a momentary volume jump when I touch any of the faders for the first time after changing snapshots and the automation has reset the fader levels. Somehow it seems to be connected to the touch sensitivity circuitry of the board, and of course I can never get it to happen when the Digi rep stops by. I have been working around this by touching the faders ahead of when I need to move them, either when there is no sound running through that particular channel or when the jump would be hidden by other sounds that are going on at the same time. We also have added extra grounding from the surface to ground on our UPS units, and also have an anti-stat mat under my chair which is conneted to ground as well. We have changed surfaces , although for now still using the same set of faders. Any ideas? - Carl |

Carl,
That would be pretty annoying, how much of an increase in level are you getting anyway. Have you turned off the fader touch option to see if that makes any difference? Hmm maybe the console is critiquing your mix and feels the levels need to be louder!! Sorry couldn't resist Scott |

Since the faders sense the capacitance in your skin, having a solid ground is paramount. Maybe you are losing the AC ground somewhere?(or did someone lift the AC ground to get rid of a hum).

Hi Carl,
Sorry to hear about this. It certainly sounds annoying, but I assure you it isn't a common problem. Please contact the VENUE support line at 650.731.6111 if the problem persists. They can then start tracking the issue. A few questions to help things along...

Wow, thanks for all the responses, this is great.
To answer all the previous questions... Sheldon- no the fader levels on the surface don't always match the levels on the computer after we change scenes, especially if the scene change is quick, or if the faders end up in lower positions of the faders track. - no it doesn't always affect the same faders - yes we've had this issue with two different surfaces. - I have had more than a few calls to venue tech support, and have also had a great tech from Digi here to help figure this thing out (he is here today, as a matter of fact.), but we just haven't been able to figure it out. Albee- the ground related thing has been talked about before. One possibility mentioned is that there may some tiny amount of live current on ground, but trying to find someone with access to an oscilloscope who can come in to measure DC offset has been unsuccessful so far. Scott, couldn't give you an exact measurement of the volume jumps, but they have been really obvious at times. 5db or so in any event. Distracting to where the audience and the performers both I haven't turned of the fader touch option yet, although I did mix a show with a rubber glove to see if the problem persisted. It didn't, but it made for some sloppy mixing, as the faders weren't really responding too well. Thanks , Carl |

Now that's what I call safe mixing!
