I don't see any threads talking about using the Mackie Onyx 1640i as an interface to Pro Tools M-Powered. It seems to me it would be a great option to pair the two, allowing monitoring at the board level to get rid of latency and to have 16 pres at that price point. The documentation from both Avid and Mackie is thin too. Does anyone know if there are limitations to this setup that I am overlooking? I am currently an 003 user with a D8 which gets me up to 12 pres, I would love to expand my system to 16 mic pres if you can record simultaneous on all 16 ports. I am a drummer so having that much expansion without having to deal with latency when monitoring would be nice.
If this setup is what I imagine it to be, can I buy m-powered pro tools and use the factory plug-ins that came with my 003 rack factory with the m-powered installation? Would I need to buy the full version of m-powered since I already own pro tools or can I get away with buying the upgrade? Lastly - am I sacrificing anything at the software level by going m-powered? I realize I am cramming a lot into one post... Your insight and experience is appreciated! Scot |

I have not seen anything from Avid saying that the 1640i will work. (might mean that they are going to brake whatever Mackie used to make it work)
yes you need a full version of m-powered software, your LE version will not work m-powered doesn't support the Tool Kits that LE does so no SMPTE, no 100+ track counts
