Default only records a few seconds and stops

Hi,
I am an absolute newbie and an old one at that. (69).
Am having awful time with learning curve to use this.
When I go to record a track on my Pro Tools Recording Studio, it only records a few seconds and stops. I must have clicked on something to make it do that.
I am trying to record a song about 2 and a half minutes long using mic and guitar.
Can,t seem to find anything in the directions on this.
Also is this a good place to get basic help for beginners or can you suggest something. Have orderd Pro Tools for Dummies, but it won,t be here for a couple of days.
Thanks!
Richard

You probably have a selection set in timeline. Try clicking somewhere in the timeline to get rid of the selection.
You might also have Dynamic Transport engaged - it is a useful tool, but as a beginner you may find it a bit confusing, so I'd advice you to switch it off (uncheck Options -> Dynamic Transport). OTOH you might try switching ON "Link Timeline and Edit Selection" in Options - it makes selecting stuff more intuitive (for a beginner ;-)

Thanks for help. Think that took care of problem.
Still feel like swimming in a sea of fog but will keep working at it.

Richard, go look at the videos on DigiTV and then hit youtube and search for PROTOOLS to find tons of tutorials. Not all are good, but there are plenty out there and its worth a look.

Allbee beat me to the YouTube point. Great resource although the expertise level can very wildly.
